Hull to host week-long comic book festival featuring V for Vendetta illustrator David Lloyd
Marking the BBC’s 100 Novels that Shaped Our World, Hull Libraries will be celebrating the amazing impact of comic novels with a host of workshops, talks and story times next month.
Guests include V for Vendetta illustrator David Lloyd, American writer and illustrator Seaerra Miller, Hull-based artist Sean Azzopardi and children’s author and illustrator Bethan Woollvin.
Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “Hull Libraries has, once again, put together an incredible programme.
“David Lloyd is royalty in the comic book world, with his V for Vendetta illustrations having become iconic. I’m delighted that we are able to host such a fantastic event next month.”
The programme will run from Monday 2 August until Saturday 7 August.
All events are free but must be booked here.
Join us next weekend for a FREE zine workshop run by Hull based cartoonist, Sean Azzopardi!
Participants will be able to create and take away their own self published comic, and in the spirit of independent comics, copies of other workshop participants comics.
Sean says of the session: “The overall theme is to look at issues surrounding oceans, marine wildlife and the threat of pollution. This is a large and complex subject and would be difficult to cover in one workshop, so I intended to ask participants I to explore these issues through a personal point of view. On a local level Hull has a rich maritime history that continues today. Participants may have actual experience of working on The Humber, or family members with stories and memories to draw on. I encourage people to bring along any material that they think may help in the making of the zine.”
